Most of the parts needed in this exercise was given to us in the beginning. Those parts given were stepper motor kit and Proxxon MF70 milling machine. In addition we had to buy only simple limit switches and casing for electronics. Stepper motor kit consisted of: -Driver board suitable for operating 3 axis NC machine. -3pcs Nema23 stepper motors.
So, after contacting Proxxon and receiving a copy of the manual for the MF70, I decided to abandon the mill idea. The main reason is that the distance between the spindle and the table is only 2.75" (70mm) which would be very restrictive for larger models. The dial for Z-axis with no lever would probably be a little annoying too.
